Why Does Hair Regrow After Laser Hair Removal?

Why Does Hair Regrow After Laser Hair Removal?

Have you ever completed a laser hair removal session only to notice hair growing back?

It can feel disheartening, but rest assured, you’re not alone and it’s not a sign that your treatment isn’t working.

In this blog, we’ll explore why this happens, explain the process behind laser hair removal, and share tips to help you maximise your results. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of why regrowth occurs and what steps you can take to address it.

How Hair Grows – The Three Phases

To understand why some hair grows back after laser hair removal, it’s important to first understand the hair growth cycle.

Every hair on your body undergoes three distinct phases

  1. Anagen Phase – This is the active growth stage where the hair is fully connected to the follicle.
  2. Catagen Phase – The transitional phase where the follicle begins to shrink.
  3. Telogen Phase – The resting stage where the hair eventually sheds.

Here’s the key – laser hair removal is most effective during the anagen phase.

At this stage, the laser’s energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, damaging the follicle and preventing future growth. However, not all hairs are in the anagen phase at the same time, which is why multiple sessions are necessary to achieve optimal results.

Why Does Hair Regrowth Happen?

After a treatment, what may look like regrowth is often part of the natural process. Here’s what could be happening

  • Hair Shedding – You might notice hairs falling out after a session, which is a good sign that the laser has effectively targeted them.
  • Dormant Hairs Activating – Hairs that were in the catagen or telogen phase during your last session may now be entering the anagen phase, making them visible. This isn’t new hair, it’s simply hair that wasn’t ready to be treated before.
  • Hormonal Influences – Factors like pregnancy, menopause, or conditions such as PCOS can stimulate new hair growth, even after successful treatments.
  • Realistic Expectations – While laser hair removal significantly reduces hair growth, it’s not 100% permanent. Some follicles may survive and produce finer, lighter hair over time.

Achieving the Best Results

Laser hair removal is a process, and consistency is key. Here are some tips to maximise your results

  1. Stick to Your Treatment Schedule – Regular sessions ensure the laser targets as many hairs in the anagen phase as possible. Missing sessions or spacing them too far apart may allow dormant hairs to grow back.
  2. Avoid Plucking or Waxing – These methods remove the hair follicle, which is what the laser needs to target. Instead, opt for shaving between sessions if necessary.
  3. Protect Your Skin – Use sunscreen to prevent sensitivity and pigmentation issues caused by sun exposure.
  4. Tailored Treatment Plans – Factors like skin tone, hair colour, and hormonal influences can affect results. A personalised consultation with a professional is essential to create a plan suited to your needs.

Regrowth after laser hair removal is normal, but it doesn’t mean the treatment isn’t working. Patience and consistency are crucial. With each session, you’ll see significant progress towards smoother, hair-free skin.

Does Bikini Hollywood Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Let’s Find Out!

It’s one of the most common questions we get asked here at Reigate Laser Clinic, and if you’re curious, you’re in the right place.

In this blog, we’ll walk you through what to expect during a laser hair removal session for the Bikini Hollywood area. We’ll cover pain levels, what causes the sensation, and most importantly, how we make the process as comfortable as possible using the advanced Motus AY True Alexandrite laser.

Stick around, and we’ll also let you know how you can book a free patch test at Reigate Laser Clinic to experience it for yourself. Trust us, it’s not as scary as you might think!

Does Bikini Hollywood Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

The honest answer is, it depends. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but here’s the good news – most people describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than actual pain. It’s often compared to a quick flick or a blast of warmth on the skin.

Why Does It Feel That Way?

The laser targets hair follicles with a concentrated beam of light, which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. This light energy turns into heat and disables the follicle, causing that snapping sensation. However, the Motus AY True Alexandrite laser we use is a game-changer. It’s designed to provide powerful results while being as gentle as possible.

This advanced laser combines cutting-edge cooling technology with a unique continuous motion technique, making the treatment smoother and more comfortable compared to traditional lasers.

Factors That Affect Sensation

Several factors can influence how laser hair removal feels:

  1. Skin Type and Sensitivity – Some people naturally have more sensitive skin, and that’s completely normal.
  2. Treatment Area – Areas with thinner, more delicate skin, such as the bikini or Hollywood zone, might feel slightly more intense than less sensitive areas like the legs.
  3. Hair Thickness and Density – Thicker, darker hair absorbs more heat, which can make the sensation slightly stronger. However, with the Motus AY laser, treatments are not only fast but also more tolerable due to its advanced cooling technology and motion-based delivery.

How We Make It Comfortable

At Reigate Laser Clinic, your comfort is our priority. Here’s how we ensure a positive experience –

  • Cooling Technology – The Motus AY laser’s built-in cooling system provides continuous relief, making the entire process much gentler than traditional lasers.
  • Smooth Motion Delivery – There are no sudden stops, just a smooth and effective treatment.
  • Experienced Technicians – Our skilled team knows how to adjust the settings to suit your comfort level while still delivering excellent results.

Pro Tips for a Comfortable Session

To make your session even more comfortable, consider these tips:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Avoid caffeine on the day of your appointment, as it can heighten sensitivity.

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely!

Laser hair removal is a long-term solution that can save you hours of shaving or waxing. Plus, think about the money you’ll save on razors, shaving creams, and waxing appointments.

Most clients tell us that the results are so worth it, they hardly even think about the sensation after their first session. Once you start seeing those smooth, silky results, you’ll be hooked.

Experience It for Yourself

If you’re curious and want to see what it’s like, why not book a free patch test at Reigate Laser Clinic?

Does Laser Hair Removal Remove 100% of Hair?

Here’s the Truth

If you’ve ever wondered whether laser hair removal can completely remove 100% of unwanted hair, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common questions people ask when considering the treatment. In this blog, we’ll break down how laser hair removal works, what results you can realistically expect, and how to maximise your outcomes. Let’s dive in!

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal targets the melanin (pigment) in your hair using light energy, which converts to heat and damages the hair follicle to reduce regrowth. However, hair grows in cycles, and the laser is most effective during the anagen phase (active growth phase).

Since not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, multiple treatment sessions are necessary to achieve optimal results.

What Results Can You Expect?

While laser hair removal can significantly reduce hair growth—by up to 90%—achieving a 100% hair-free result is rare. Fine, light hairs are often harder for the laser to detect and eliminate completely.

However, for many people, the reduction in hair growth means fewer hairs, softer regrowth, and much less time spent on shaving or waxing. It’s important to approach the treatment as a long-term hair reduction solution, rather than expecting absolute hair removal.

Factors That Influence Results

Skin and Hair Type

The ideal candidate typically has darker hair and lighter skin, as the laser can target the hair pigment more effectively. However, advanced technology, like the Motus AY Alexandrite laser we use at Reigate Laser Clinic, is designed to work on a broader range of skin tones safely and effectively.

Hormonal Influences

Hormones play a big role, particularly in areas like the face. Conditions such as PCOS can cause new hair growth even after a series of treatments.

Treatment Areas

Certain areas, such as the underarms and legs, generally respond better to laser treatments than hormonal areas like the face or bikini line. These areas may require occasional touch-up sessions to maintain results.

How to Maximise Your Results

1. Stick to Your Treatment Schedule

Attending every recommended session ensures you target as many active hair follicles as possible.

2. Avoid Sun Exposure

Sun exposure before or after treatment can interfere with the laser’s effectiveness and increase the risk of skin irritation. Keep the treated area protected from the sun.

3. Follow Aftercare Advice

Simple steps like avoiding hot showers and certain skincare products can help maintain your skin’s condition and optimise results.

Maintenance and Longevity

Even after completing your initial treatments, maintenance sessions may be needed to manage any new hair growth, particularly in hormonal areas. At Reigate Laser Clinic, we personalise maintenance plans to suit your specific needs, ensuring you enjoy smooth, hair-free skin for years to come.

The Verdict

Does laser hair removal remove 100% of hair? Not quite. But with realistic expectations, a consistent treatment schedule, and proper aftercare, laser hair removal can be a game-changer. It offers a long-term solution for smoother skin and boosts confidence, all while dramatically reducing the hassle of daily hair removal routines.

If you’re curious about whether laser hair removal is right for you, why not book a free patch test at Reigate Laser Clinic? Our experts will create a personalised plan to help you achieve the best possible results.

Brazilian Wax vs Laser Hair Removal

Which Hurts More?

When deciding between a Brazilian wax and laser hair removal, one common question arises – Which one hurts more?

Both treatments are effective, but the level of discomfort varies. Let’s explore the pain levels, what to expect during each procedure, and how advancements like the Motus AY Alexandrite laser can make laser hair removal a more comfortable experience.

Brazilian Wax – What to Expect

During a Brazilian waxing session, hot wax is applied to the skin and quickly removed, pulling hair out from the root. This process can be quite painful, particularly in sensitive areas like the bikini zone. Many people find the first waxing session the most uncomfortable, though the pain tends to lessen over time as hair grows back finer.

Laser Hair Removal – A Modern Alternative

Laser hair removal, especially with the Motus AY Alexandrite laser, works by targeting hair follicles with concentrated light, damaging them to reduce future growth. Clients often describe the sensation as quick snaps, similar to a rubber band against the skin. However, the Motus AY’s cooling technology significantly minimises discomfort, making it a less intense experience for most.

Which One Hurts More?

For most people, Brazilian waxing is more painful because it involves pulling out multiple hairs at once. In contrast, laser hair removal is often described as less painful, particularly with advanced technology like the Motus AY, which reduces discomfort. Additionally, laser hair removal offers long-term results after several sessions, meaning fewer treatments and less pain over time. In comparison, waxing requires frequent maintenance every few weeks, leading to repeated discomfort.

Choosing the Right Option

Your choice depends on your preferences and goals. If you’re looking for a long-term solution with less ongoing pain, laser hair removal with the Motus AY is worth considering. For those comfortable with regular sessions and a temporary fix, waxing may still be appealing.

Want to find out if laser hair removal is right for you? Book your free patch test today at Reigate Laser Clinic and discover a smoother, more comfortable way to manage hair removal. Book in Here or please give us a call and we can chat about it together to ensure you know all your options.

Autumn & Winter – The Secret Weapon for Smooth Skin

Discover why starting laser hair removal during cooler months is a game-changer!

Laser hair removal is one of the most effective ways to achieve smooth, hair-free skin, but timing is everything.

If you’re wondering when to start your treatments for the best results, you’re not alone, it’s a question we hear all the time! The answer? Autumn and winter are the ideal seasons. Here’s why starting during the cooler months can make all the difference.

Why Timing Matters

Laser hair removal isn’t a one-and-done treatment. It targets hair follicles in the active growth phase (anagen phase), but because your hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are needed to effectively treat all the hair. Spacing sessions every 4 to 8 weeks is typical, and starting in autumn or winter gives you enough time to complete the process and be beach-ready by summer.

Benefits of Starting Laser Hair Removal in Autumn or Winter

Untanned Skin Equals Better Results

Tanned skin can interfere with the laser’s ability to effectively target hair follicles, which is why it’s best to begin treatments when your skin has had minimal sun exposure. After summer, your skin is likely to be free of recent tanning, making it an ideal time to start.

Prepping for Summer

Laser hair removal requires several months to complete the recommended sessions. Starting in autumn or winter ensures your treatment plan will finish in time for you to show off smooth skin during the summer months.

Easier to Avoid Sun Exposure

During laser treatments, protecting your skin from sun exposure is crucial. This is much easier to manage in cooler months when you’re naturally wearing more layers and spending less time in the sun.

What to Keep in Mind

Hair Growth Cycles

Since laser hair removal targets hair in its active growth phase, treatments need to be spaced out to catch each hair at the right time. This makes starting early an essential part of achieving the best results.

Personal Factors

Your skin tone, hair type, and schedule also play a role in timing. For example, if you’re planning a sunny holiday or big event, you’ll need to plan treatments around these to avoid sun exposure and ensure optimal healing time.

Ready to Start Your Laser Hair Removal Journey?

At Reigate Laser Clinic, we offer free patch tests to help you determine the best treatment plan for your unique skin and hair type. A patch test also allows you to see how your skin reacts to the laser before committing to the full course of treatments.

Don’t wait until summer to start, book your free patch test today and take the first step toward achieving smooth, hair-free skin.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful? Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’re considering laser hair removal, a popular choice for long-term hair reduction, you may be wondering about the discomfort associated with the procedure. Is it painful, and how does it compare to other hair removal methods?

In this blog, we’ll walk you through what to expect during a laser hair removal session, tips to minimise discomfort, and details about a free patch test available at Reigate Laser Clinic.

What to Expect – The Pain Factor

Laser hair removal is often described as a tolerable experience, with many clients comparing the sensation to a quick snap or a light rubber band flick against the skin. Of course, pain levels vary from person to person, depending on factors like pain tolerance, the area being treated, and the technology used.

Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. For example, the bikini line, which has thinner skin, might feel more sensitive than areas like the legs. Additionally, factors like hormonal fluctuations or pre-existing skin conditions can also affect sensitivity. But, overall, the discomfort is often brief and manageable.

How Laser Hair Removal Compares to Waxing and Shaving

Compared to traditional hair removal methods, laser hair removal is generally less painful. Waxing can involve significant discomfort, and shaving often leads to issues like irritated skin and ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal, by contrast, is a quick process with a long-term benefit: you won’t have to endure frequent maintenance sessions.

Thanks to advancements in technology, treatments like those using the Motus AY Alexandrite laser, offer an even more comfortable experience.

This technology includes integrated cooling to keep discomfort at a minimum, allowing you to get the smooth, hair-free skin you want without the irritation associated with other methods.

Tips to Minimise Discomfort During Laser Hair Removal

Here are a few simple tips to make your laser hair removal experience as comfortable as possible:

  1. Hydrate – Staying well-hydrated can help your skin respond better to treatment.
  2. Talk to Your Technician – If you’re nervous about discomfort, communicate with your technician. They can make adjustments to the settings or techniques to suit your needs and increase your comfort.
  3. Avoid Sensitivity Triggers – Avoid caffeine and intense sun exposure before your appointment, as these can make your skin more sensitive.

At Reigate Laser Clinic, we tailor each treatment plan to our clients’ needs, ensuring a personalised approach that adapts to any sensitivities.

Can Laser Hair Removal Prevent Ingrown Hairs?

Lets dive into a question we get all the time ….

If you’ve ever struggled with the pain and frustration of ingrown hairs, this article is for you. We’ll explore why laser hair removal is one of the best solutions to prevent these pesky issues, what you can expect after treatment, and how you can get started with a free patch test at our clinic.

What Causes Ingrown Hairs?

Ingrown hairs happen when hair grows back into the skin rather than growing up and out. This can cause irritation, bumps, and even infection. Ingrown hairs are especially common in areas like the bikini line, legs, and underarms, where hair removal methods like shaving and waxing can aggravate the skin. But how can laser hair removal change that?

Can Laser Hair Removal Prevent Ingrown Hairs?

The short answer is yes! Laser hair removal significantly reduces the chances of ingrown hairs by addressing the root cause, hair growth itself.

Laser hair removal works by targeting hair follicles beneath the skin. The laser’s light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which disables the follicle and prevents future hair growth. With no hair to grow back, the likelihood of ingrown hairs is greatly reduced. Over time, repeated laser treatments lead to permanent hair reduction, which means smoother skin and fewer (or no) ingrown hairs!

What to Expect Right After Treatment

While laser hair removal reduces the chances of ingrown hairs in the long term, it’s still possible to experience them during the initial treatments. Hair doesn’t disappear immediately after each session – instead, the follicles shed hair over time. As this happens, there’s a slight chance hair could become trapped under the skin, especially if you’re already prone to ingrown hairs.

Tips to Prevent Ingrown Hairs After Laser Hair Removal

  1. Exfoliate Gently – Exfoliation helps the treated area shed hair naturally. Gentle exfoliation reduces the risk of hairs getting trapped under the skin.
  2. Keep Skin Moisturised – Moisturising helps keep your skin hydrated and soft, which allows the shedding process to happen more smoothly.
  3. Follow Aftercare Instructions – Our experts provide personalised aftercare instructions tailored to your skin type, ensuring you get the best results with minimal irritation.

Why Laser is the Superior Option for Smooth Skin

Compared to waxing or shaving, which can actually increase the chances of ingrown hairs, laser hair removal is a long-term solution. With inactive hair follicles, there’s no hair left to curl back into the skin, leaving you with smooth, ingrown-free skin.

Is Brazilian Laser Embarrassing? Here’s Why You Don’t Need to Worry

So here it is, a question that a lot of people are curious about…

Is Brazilian laser hair removal embarrassing?

If you’re feeling a little anxious about this treatment, know that you’re not alone. Brazilian laser hair removal targets a very personal area, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous before your first session. In this blog, we’ll walk you through exactly what happens during a Brazilian laser session and explain why there’s no need to feel awkward.

Let’s Address the Elephant in the Room – Embarrassment

Thinking about laser hair removal on such an intimate area can definitely feel awkward at first. Many people worry about exposing this area or feel self-conscious about their bodies.

But here’s the truth – you’re not alone, and this is entirely normal.

At Reigate Laser Clinic, our therapists are trained professionals who work hard to create a comfortable and respectful environment.

What to Expect During a Brazilian Laser Session

So, what actually happens during a Brazilian laser session?

Let’s break it down step by step –

Private Consultation – When you arrive, we’ll start with a private consultation to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. This is a safe space for you to express any worries, and we’ll ensure you’re fully comfortable with the process before moving forward.

The Treatment Room – Once it’s time for your treatment, you’ll be in a private room. You’ll only need to expose the areas being treated, nothing more. Your therapist will work quickly and efficiently to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible throughout the process.

Routine for Us, New for You – Keep in mind, this is routine work for our team. What may feel awkward for you is simply another day on the job for us. Our top priority is your comfort and safety, and we have extensive experience treating clients who feel exactly like you do.

Why It’s More Comfortable Than You Think

Once the session begins, many clients find their worries fade away quickly.

  • Room Comfort – We ensure the room is set to a comfortable temperature to help you relax.
  • Advanced Cooling Technology – The laser technology we use includes a cooling mechanism, making the treatment not only effective but also more comfortable and less painful.

A Common Reaction: “Why Didn’t I Do This Sooner?”

After their first session, many clients say they wish they had tried Brazilian laser hair removal sooner. They realize that their worries were unnecessary and that the process was far easier and more comfortable than they anticipated.

Ready to Give It a Try?

If you’ve been thinking about Brazilian laser hair removal but feel a little nervous, we’d love to invite you in for a free consultation and patch test. This gives you the chance to see how your skin reacts, ask any questions, and get comfortable with our process.

Why Autumn is the Best Time to Start Your Laser Hair Removal Journey

Starting your Laser Hair Removal journey in Autumn or Winter?

What a BRILLIANT move!

As the leaves turn and temperatures drop, you’re not just layering up, you are also setting the stage for silky smooth skin.

Let’s dive into why this seasonal switch is ideal for your beauty routine.

Reduced Sunshine Exposure

Let’s face it, shorter days and wonderfully cosy nights, we naturally spend more time indoors as autumn rolls in. This decrease in sun exposure is a big win for your skin! Laser hair removal is most effective on untanned skin, so you can wave goodbye to those worries about sunburn or sensitivity and with less chance of hyperpigmentation or burns, you’re giving your skin the best chance to shine ……. literally!

Layer Up!

As the temperatures drop, we swap our sundresses for sweaters and our shorts for trousers. This means that the areas you’re treating can be comfortably covered post-session, protecting your skin from the sun’s rays.

Plus, with fewer exposed areas, you can focus on your treatments without worrying about unwanted attention….. it’s all about that stealthy glow-up!

Timing is Everything

Let’s talk logistics! Laser hair removal typically requires multiple sessions, spaced a few weeks apart to catch those pesky hair follicles in different growth stages. By starting in the autumn, you’re giving yourself the luxury of time. You’ll be ready to flaunt your smooth skin just in time for spring and summer, when you want to show off those bare legs or rock that cute swimsuit!

Comfort is Key

Post-treatment, your skin might feel a bit sensitive, no worries! The cooler weather is perfect for this, as it minimises any discomfort from heat or sunburn. You can snuggle up in soft fabrics without the risk of irritation, making the process much more enjoyable.

Sun Safety First!

A quick reminder – regardless of the season, protecting your skin is crucial. Always follow your practitioner’s guidelines about sun exposure during and after your sessions. Sunscreen and protective clothing are your best friends in ensuring optimal results and minimising risks. Remember, glowing skin is all about care and caution!

We’re Here for You!

Got questions? We’ve got answers! Whether you’re curious about the process or ready to book your first session, our experts are here to help.

Our Most Popular Treatments at Reigate Laser Clinic

and it is easy to understand why ….

Legs, Bikini & Underarms Hair Removal are our top requested treatments, with laser hair removal being the popular option for removing hair from the legs, bikini area and underarms due to its effectiveness and long-term benefits.

Here’s a rundown of what you need to know

How It Works

Laser Technology – Laser hair removal uses concentrated light beams to target melanin (the pigment) in hair follicles. The light is converted into heat, which damages the follicle and inhibits future hair growth.

Hair Growth Cycles – Hair grows in cycles—anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting). Laser hair removal is most effective during the anagen phase, so multiple sessions are usually required to catch hairs in this stage.

Benefits

Long-Term Results – Unlike shaving or waxing, which only remove hair temporarily, laser hair removal can provide long-lasting or permanent reduction in hair growth.

Precision – Lasers target individual hair follicles, which can be beneficial for treating small areas like the bikini line and underarms.

Reduced Ingrown Hairs – Laser hair removal can minimise the occurrence of ingrown hairs, which are a common issue with other hair removal methods.

Procedure

Preparation – Before treatment, the area should be shaved to ensure the laser targets the hair follicle directly. Some practitioners might apply a cooling gel to protect the skin.

Treatment – During the session, you’ll wear protective eyewear, and the technician will use a handheld laser device to target the hair follicles. The sensation is often described as a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Aftercare – Post-treatment, there may be some redness or swelling, similar to a mild sunburn. Moisturizing and avoiding sun exposure are recommended.
